All Blue Lotus classes & events are open to all. We provide suggested donation amounts,

​02/15/21  We are please to announce that Lama Ngakpa Chökyi Lodü and the SIKS will be visiting The BLDC on February 28, 2021.  He will be hosting a Special Sunday Service where some of his students will receive Bodhisattva Vows.  There will be other events and itinerary will be posted soon.  There will be high grade robes, incense and malas available for sale for those interested. 35 Buddha Ceremony for Karma Purification - with Ngakmo Jamyang Drolma

On Sunday morning, January 24, Ngakmo Jamyang Drolma will lead a 35 Buddha Ceremony for karma purification. This is a powerful prostration ceremony for the new year in which, through reciting the names of the 35 Buddhas, we receive their blessings, gaining wisdom and merit, and purifying negative karma. The event will be broadcast live on Zoom using our Sunday Service link, and open to a limited number of people to join in the dharma center. Please email Bluelotusdharmacenter@gmail.com if you would like to attend in person. This event will be from 10:00 - 11:30am. Suggested Donation: $35. Donations will support both Blue Lotus and Sky Iron Kila Society.
​Ngakmo Drolma will also provide afternoon teachings on Sunday, January 24, from 1:00-3:00pm, open to active sangha members. Topics will include butter lamp offerings, mandala offerings, using drums for meditation, and wearing robes. Participants will be able to ask additional questions as time permits. This will also be available on Zoom for the sangha. Dana is encouraged, as you are able.

Lojong Mind Training - November 1, 2020 (Registration is Closed)

​         Lojong is a mind training practice in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. It is based on a set of slogans formulated by Chekawa Yeshe Dorje.  Under the direction of  Lama Ngakpa Chökyi Lodü, the participants will learn to refining and purifying one's personal motivations and attitudes.  This course will take place over the span of 9 months and will start in November 1, 2020. 

If you are accepted into our program, h
ere is a list of items that you will need for the this course:
  1. Text:   Training the Mind - Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche
  2. A large stack of 3x5 index cards
  3. A very large quantity of sticky notes
  4. A mala/japa/prayer beads
  5. A working shrine with offering bowls (3,6,7, or 8 bowls)
  6. Meditation shawl/robe (NOT red or maroon or yellow - these colors are prohibited)

OPTIONAL ITEMS:
  1. A journal/notebook for class notes, keeping a log regarding your practice and daily experiences while in the course
  2. Protector shrine (or a space for them once you begin working with them)
  3. Bell and vajra
  4. Tingsha
  5. lungi or dhoti (women may also opt for a white sari in place of the lungi or dhoti

"Expressing Devotion at Home" -- Saturday, May 16, 2020

  The Center for American Buddhist Practice / Blue Lotus Dharma Center is happy to present a class on “Expressing Devotion at Home” by Lama Ngakpa Chökyi Lodü, the Spiritual Head of the NamChok Pur ChoLing/Sky-Iron Kila Society. 
            This class will explore some options of setting up a personal shrine at home; making offerings; the outer and inner meaning of the offerings; and correlating mudras and mantras. A great class for anyone, including beginners, who would like to learn more about joyfully making offerings.
            There is a suggested donation of $30. Any donation amount is greatly appreciated and will go to support Lama Chökyi Lodü and his community directly. (This class has been archived here.) Thank you for your support!

 Dhammapada Course - Thursdays at 7:00 p.m.

It's not too late to join the Dhammapada class! As of mid-May, we are not even half way through the text, and you can still join at any time. No previous experience with Buddhism or other spiritual practices are needed. The Dhammapada is a collection of the profound teachings of the Buddha on how to attain happiness and liberation. We will be using Thomas Cleary's translation, and we recommend getting your own copy of the book, though it is not required. 
        All are welcome to join for one class or for the whole series. This is a great opportunity for both beginners as well as more experienced practitioners. To join, use the Zoom meeting link below. Please be sure to have your microphone muted, unless you are wanting to ask a question.

Beginner's Class (Book Club) -- Currently on Hiatus

​           Join us to learn more about fundamental Buddhist teachings! Beginner's class will cover basic concepts that all schools of Buddhism follow. Not required for attending Sunday service but may aid in understanding and participation. Class will be taught in tandum by Ngakpa Jinpa and Ngakmo Drolma who are each training under Lama Chökyi Lodu to become Buddhist priests.  Class is free to attend but donations are welcome and appreciated. CURRENT TEXT: 'Lotus in a Stream: Essays in Basic Buddhism' by Master Hsing Yun.

  On Saturday evening (February 29), Lama Chökyi will be leading us in an outdoor fire puja, followed by a potluck and satsang ("association with the Teacher"). This will be an informal evening and a wonderful chance for good association with the Teacher and sangha. Refuge vows will also be offered this evening. If you would like to take refuge please email bluelotusdharmacenter@gmail.com. Event time 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Suggested donation: $10, Flowers and/or Food. 

   On Sunday morning, Lama will lead us in a 35 Buddha Ceremony for karma purification. This is a powerful ceremony for the new year in which, through reciting the names of the 35 Buddhas, we receive their blessings, gaining wisdom and merit, and purifying lifetimes of karma. If you are able to do prostrations, they are a valuable part of the ceremony; they are not mandatory, however. Here is a guide to doing prostrations.  Event time 10:00 - 11:30am. There will be light lunch, tea and coffee provided after the event. Suggested Donation: $35.

   All are welcome to attend regardless of ability to pay. Donations of any amount are deeply appreciated and will help pay for the weekend's events, as well as our usual operational expenses like rent and upkeep. We will also be using funds to continue to beautify the temple on the inside and out.
